The SMT 74hc04 is a much smaller version of the DIP 74hc04. You can use a SMT panel if you are short on space, but be warned, these will be harder to solder wires to!

The 74hc86 is a small integrated circuit that will allow you to invert the appearance of your display. Simply put, once you install this IC, light areas on your LCD will become dark areas and vice versa.

This simple mod can be combined with backlighting and standard polarized film inversion to yield some very cool results. This is known as biverting your Game Boy.
