The DIP 74hc04 is the larger version of the 74hc04. The DIP version has more surface area and is easier to solder wires to compared to the SMT model. Recommended for first time modders.

The 74hc86 is a small integrated circuit that will allow you to invert the appearance of your display. Simply put, once you install this IC, light areas on your LCD will become dark areas and vice versa.

This simple mod can be combined with backlighting and standard polarized film inversion to yield some very cool results. This is known as biverting your Game Boy.
